PETITION TO DIS-APPROVE RAMPS

WHEREAS:

(1.) the City of New York is seeking the approvals of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to construct additional access ramps to and from the Van Wyck Expressway; and

(2.) the Environmental Impact Statement prepared in connection with the proposed ramps and associated development indicates that significant adverse impacts to surrounding roadways will occur, to the detriment of residents of surrounding communities and commuters who rely upon the affected roadways;

I, the undersigned person, hereby state that:

(a.) I am opposed to the construction of the proposed ramps to and from the Van Wyck Expressway, and I reject the reduction in quality of life that will result from significant adverse impacts to be caused by the ramps and the associated development;

(b.) I will consider it unacceptable – an abdication of responsibility – should NYSDOT and FHWA rely upon an overly broad analysis framework to justify approving construction of additional Van Wyck access ramps, when those ramps and the associated development will cause very significant adverse traffic impacts;

(c.) I insist that NYSDOT and FHWA elevate the importance of the anticipated local adverse traffic impacts to be caused by the proposed Van Wyck access ramps, such that those adverse traffic impacts require NYSDOT and FHWA to dis-approve the proposed ramps.

The phrase "Van Wyck access ramps" as used within this Petition is defined to include both (i.) entirely new access ramp(s); as well as (ii.) modification(s) to any existing access ramp(s).
